Andre is a storyteller and illustrator whose work lives at the intersection of humor, heart, and honesty. As the creator of Somewhere in Between, he has developed a distinct voice in the webcomic space that blends sharp comedic timing with deeply human storytelling.
Andre’s journey as an artist began early. As a child, he looked forward to mornings when his dad would hand him the “funny pages,” sparking a love for comics that quickly turned into a dream of becoming a cartoonist. That passion followed him into college, where he pursued studio art at the University of West Florida, that is, until life took an unexpected turn. He left the program and stepped away from visual art entirely, spending nearly a decade focused on music and other creative outlets, with a sketchbooks left untouched.
That changed in 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic shifted daily life and moved his work home, Andre found himself revisiting a long-standing desire to draw again. He specifically to create a comic strip about his then young biracial son and the interesting and complex world that he would end up growing up in. After voicing that frustration to his wife, she offered a simple but pivotal challenge: "Why not now?" and that was the turning point. Andre immediately bought an iPad and an Apple Pencil.
Andre took the leap, and what began as a return to an old passion quickly grew into something much larger.
His work centers on characters who feel authentic and relatable: a biracial tween navigating identity, friendship, and self-discovery, and his barefoot, rough-around-the-edges best friend who brings both grit and grounding to the story. Through these characters, Andre explores the complexities of growing up through the lens of race, belonging, insecurity, love, and the quiet, defining moments that shape who we become.
What sets Andre’s work apart is his ability to balance tone. His comics move seamlessly from humor to sincerity, using laughter as an entry point into deeper emotional truths. Readers are drawn in by the wit but stay because they recognize themselves in the vulnerability and honesty behind each story.
Visually, Andre’s style draws inspiration from both Western comics and anime, resulting in clean, expressive artwork that prioritizes character and emotion. Every panel is intentional. Body language, facial expressions, and composition work together to capture the nuance of real-life interactions, making each moment feel lived-in and genuine.
Beyond the page, Andre has built a growing and highly engaged audience across multiple platforms, reaching hundreds of thousands of readers each week. Through consistency, authenticity, and a strong narrative voice, Somewhere in Betweenhas evolved into more than a comic—it’s a brand, a community, and a shared experience.
At his core, Andre is an artist who understands people. He creates with empathy, writes with purpose, and illustrates stories that reflect the in-between moments of life. A voice to the experiences that are often overlooked, but universally felt.
